PostSubject: Katō's training.   Fri Jul 30, 2010 3:41 am

Spoiler:

----------------------------------------------------------

Katō' stepped out into the clearing that he had discovered a few days back. Sitting some way out in the vastness of Kohona's forests, the small clearing was just a circle of grass about a mile across enclosed by the titans of the tree world, or so Katō thought, and right in the middle was the large, slightly battered tree stump. It was good to train in but thus far he had only mastered the techniques his grandfather had taught him and basic accademy jutsu. It was time for some serious training. Katō had been thinking that he needed to expand his knowledge in ninjutsu, build upon the things his grandfather had taught him, grow some. Fixing an intense gaze on the tree stump, Katō unzipped his heavy hoodie, and chucked it aside, placing his right leg behind him as he did so in a wide, sweeping motion - kicking up some dust and trailing a path in the grass. Tightening his headband, he flung his right hand outwards placing his thumb on his middle finger and flicking up his index finger beside them. Curling his other two fingers down, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes, begining to focus chakra into his fingertips.

Katō, overestimating his own abilities as per usual, flooded his fingers with Lightning chakra, and a loud CRACK was the result. Katō withdrawing his hand sharply and, curling his body tightly, fell over and began shaking his hand rapidly as if in some attempt to hurry the chakra out of it. Thrusting his hand into a nearby tree root, the electricity discharged through him and the painful sensation was over, but through the small tears that were forming at the edge of Katō's green eyes, a devilish look shone through. Slowly, he relaxed his body and just lay in the grass for a while, watching the sky trudge on above him and feeling a light breeze wash over him, the sound of the grass rustling helped to cool his boiling nerves.

He lay there for a few hours, practising focusing chakra into his fingertips, and then letting it flow through his body and into his other fingertips, although he couldn't keep this up for long before another, but this time more quieter, CRACK, and his hand was writing in pain again. After a while, when he felt he had the knack of it, Katō stood up once more and fixed an even more fiery gaze on the tree stump. Repeating the same process, but slower this time, Katō focused not on the tips of his fingers this time, but on the tree stump in front of him, and this time made one handed hand seals behind the right arm to control the chakra flow - a nice little knack that he had added himself. Feeling the tingling sensation building up in his hand, he increased the speed at which he was making the hand seals, and when the pain grew too much, Katō flicked his wrist and snapped his fingers, a bolt of white lightning bursting into life at his fingertips. Momentarily, Katō’s ecstatic face was flooded with white light, the triumph glaringly obvious in his sparkling green eyes, as the bolt streaked away towards the tree trunk. In an instant, it was there, and exploding off of the bark which crumpled like paper underneath the weight of the strike. Hundreds of tiny white sparks burst into life around the tree, large blue webs of electricity weaving their way momentarily between them, and when they died down a handful of seconds later, only the blue streaks remained, crackling into life every few seconds around a flaming hole in the tree

Hardly able to contain his joy at finally creating a jutsu, Katō had to fight every urge he had to celebrate for the sake of composure in case that Jounin was watching him again. Instead, he just looked at the fingers he had snapped with and shrugged, mumbling something which sounded quite like “cool” before snapping his fingers again and watching the sparks dance over the fingers. But his eyes would have given him away, any day.

Bout 610 words or so...

Spoiler:

----------------------------------------

Not wanting to allow his training session to come to a close just yet, Katō practiced his 'Lightning Snap!' techniqe a few more times, making more dents in the tree infront of him. He was becoming quicker at it than before, and could now just snap his fingers and fire off a small bolt of the Lightning, however for larger charges, he needed to concentrate. It was whilst forming the one-handed ram hand seal that Katō's mind began to wander. His grandfather, Takezō had taught him the trick of single handed hand seals, and how to use two different seals at once - a technique that Katō could never quite master no matter how hard he tried.

*SNAP* - another bolt of lightning fired off towards the tree stump, and in the crackling of the light Katō saw his gradfather's teachings forming once more. He recalled one jutsu that he had been taught by that great man, Takezō. The hidden Danzō jutsu of Distortion. The wind swept by and blew the sparks away, and Katō began to reminiss about when he had been taught that technique.

*SNAP* - a branch broke behind Katō, and he was no longer in his training cove, but back in the Rain country wher he had grown up with Takezō. He was practising some taijutsu techniques when his grandfather had shouted him over, it was time for his birthday present. Grinning madly, little Katō with his sparkling green eyes and muddy face sped over to his grandfather, who had written a scroll for him.

"It's called the Distortion technique, Katō." said his grandfather, in that wise, rumbling sort of speech that Takezō spoke in. It was commanding, harsh and unkind. But Katō had grown to love it nonetheless. Anything warmer would only have reminded him of his dad. "And I think it's time for you to learn it, don't you?" Katō could have sworn that there, just for a second, Takezō had smiled. Or was he just imagining tihngs again? Bowing low and giving his grandfather a heartfelt, ecstatic, but in every way polite, thanks, Katō ran off as fast as he could with the scroll to teach himself the technique.

*SNAP* - more sparks, and in them Katō saw the days he spent practising the Distortion technique burst into existence and fade away with the sparks. For weeks he had practiced, and gained nothing more than bad burns and aching limbs. His grandfather had always been harsh, but Katō remembered the look of disappointment on Takezō's face every time he returned home and failed to use the technique.

"Old Ba..." *SNAP* - an even more ferocious crackle and shriek as the lightning exploded into life around Katō, streaking off in a random direction and exploding in a nearby tree, setting it aflame. Katō would have been in trouble had it not just started to rain, the steady *plish* and *plosh* of the droplets bouncing off of the ground below him. Sighing, Katō slumped against the charred tree stump, the smell of wood smoke flooded his nostrils and made him couch and splutter as the rainfall intensified, the hiss from the tree on fire like a curse for Katō's incompetence. Katō shot it a look of cold hatred for a moment, before knocking his head against the tree once more. The smell was lighter this time, less suffocating. I haling the sweet scent of the burnt sap once more, he recalled the day he had mastered it properly.

*SNAP* - one of the larger tree branches fell of and cracked its way down into the grove, and it was the same thing that had happened those three years ago. Katō was trying and failing again to use the Distortion jutsu, and it was only when he heard the snap that he realised Takezō had been watching him the entire time. The look of disappointment was not because Katō had failed him, it was because Katō had not asked for his help.

"Listen, Katō. There will always be those with more knowledge than you in this world." Takezō boomed over the thunder in Katō's mind, his words ringing out over the rainfall and lightning cracks in the dark sky above him. He found his hands making hand seals before him, dwelling on his grandfather's words. "It would be most unwise to overlook their help. Here, let me show you..." Takezō had spent the next week teaching Katō how to let the Lightning chakra flow around his body, the key to the distortion technique, and as Katō moved off of the tree, he sliced his hands apart. A field of electricity fizzed into life around him, the rain evapourating into steam a few centimetres above his body.

*SNAP* - the Distortion was gone, and Kato picked up his drenched hoodie and trudged back home. Enough training had been done for that day.

Spoiler:

------------------------------------------------
Katō, on his way home from training, decided to take refuge in one of the nearby Ramen shops – Uzumaki Ramen. For one reason or another, it attracted the vast majority of the Ramen eating shinobi of Kohona. Whilst there, he ordered himself up a plate of spicy meat ramen – a mix of beef, pork and various spices and vegetables. The sweet smells coming from the kitchen were enough to make him think of home, his father’s maid was an excellent cook and even though he couldn’t remember much of his time with his father, her cooking was one of the most predominant things in his mind when he thought about it. It was then that some thug decided he wanted to hold up the place, and, seeing as Katō wanted to enjoy his meal in peace, he took action. Vanishing from where he sat in an instant, Katō was on his feet and pouncing. Flipping in mid-air, Katō landed behind the guy, and smacked him straight in the back of the head. The thug went flying forward, straight into Katō’s ramen, but it was a worthy sacrifice to learn that a back-flip usually distracts the opponent long enough to make a quick hit.

Leaf Gale and Leaf Whirlwind

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Katō, after having been thanked by the Uzumaki-Ramen shop owner for dealing with the bandit, knew he should report the man to a Chunin or a Jounin, maybe what was left of the Konoha police corps. However, he just couldn't be bothered. So, making his way home, stomach full, happy with the amount of jutsu he had learnt that day, began to recall the Konoha traveller that once visited him and his grandfather Takezō. Right Guy, he had been called, and Katō could clearly remember the man's strange appearance. Bob cut, big bushy brows and a habit of over exaggerating everything. Yet, it had amused Katō in his earlier life, and he had taken a liking to the man. Katō remembered the man's challenge to him, that if he could land a single hit, he would teach Katō two "Super Secret Techniques from Konoha!" - even the way he had said it made it seem like something from a play or a comic book. So, Katō took up the challenge, and Right Guy's entire persona changed. He was now as ruthless as Katō's grandfather, and soon had Katō on the floor. Disappointed in himself, Katō leapt from the floor when Guy's guard was dropped, and head-butted him straight in the chest.

Shaking his head at the memory of the lucky hit, Katō turned into another street. Entirely lost in thought, he began to watch his feet and lost track of where he was going. The rain beat down heavily around him, soaking through his hood and dripping onto his face. The soothing smell of damp cloth hung about him, like a barrier to keep him locked inside his memories. From that day on, his grandfather had let him train with the stranger from Konoha, and for the next two months when Katō wasn’t training with his grandfather, he was training with Guy. He was to be taught three Konoha signature Taijutsu, however his training was cut short when Guy suddenly vanished, and Katō only underwent half of the necessary training to do the third. Suddenly, Katō’s concentration was broken as a kunai was sent hurtling towards his face. The “whip” of the weapon being thrown was enough to disturb the thin fabric of memory, and Katō’s instincts threw him to the ground in order to avoid it, rain water splashing out from under him. Unfortunately for Katō, it was the aim of the attack as the assailant threw himself towards the downed kid. Lifting his front leg, the attacker made to stomp on Katō, however he was unprepared for the level of skill that the boy possessed. Seizing his chance to attack a weak point, Katō held his hands in place on the wet ground, and threw his left leg in an anti-clockwise circle behind him, water spraying off and into the face of the assailant.

“Konoha Reppū!” Katō yelled at the top of his lungs, the shout brimming with anger and a little bit of apprehension. Using it to distract himself from the situation more than anything.
SNAP! The kick hit with precise efficiency at the target’s knee, causing the leg to splinter inwards and the man to ghasp out loud in pain. The man clearly wasn’t a ninja, or at least not a very good one, but Katō wasn’t about to let up. Allowing his leg to swirl full circle, he pushed himself off of the ground and proceeded to leap into the air. The man fell to the ground with a loud splash and another grunt of agony, the moans slowly growing louder; but two of his friends were lunging towards Katō now. Not wasting any more time, Katō flung out his left leg to hit the first man square in the face.
“Konoha Senpū!” he boomed, louder than the thunder cracking over his head as the left foot crunched into the man’s face, breaking the jaw and causing his head to spin off to the right, his body following like a sand bag attached to a weight. As Katō fell to the ground, the other man drew near and Katō kept the spinning motion to take out his bottom legs. The other assailant followed suit to his partner, and both of them were soon sprawled out against an alleyway door. Grunting as another clap of lightning scratched the sky above him, Katō got to his feet and walked onwards, the groans of the men that were unlucky enough to still be conscious trailing after him like a bad smell.

“Thank god for Guy…” Katō whispered under his breath, drawing his hood closer to his face and quickening his pace home. “Will I ever make it home tonight?”
